On the notice board of a shop in downtown Golden Bay, there was pinned a card for Tarot readings. Kati was attracted. The next day, in a rural house perched on a hill, we sat on the floor with the reader.

We were feeling uncertain about our next steps. The reading was not specific, but afterwards we felt clear to take a bus south to Fox Glacier.

In the warmth of the summer sun, our muscles finally began to relax as the bus rolled through long stretches of New Zealand countryside. The steady thrum of the bus on the road eased me into a reverie as I reflected on the question of “Who am I, really?”

Tarot cards appeared in my mind’s eye. Only, they weren’t tarot cards. They were Self-awareness cards, written with eternal qualities such as beauty, stillness and spontaneity. The qualities appeared as wave patterns which formed into word images.

More elusive to capture in words than a butterfly on the wing in the hands, I wrote what came. But there was more to it than this. Seeing the eternal qualities as wave patterns, Kati and I connected them with the ‘singing strings’ of String Theory, which quantum physicists say create different types of particles and forces with each note from their vibrations. For us, the eternal qualities are among the emanations from the strings. They are a physical reality from the unified field and in our worldview a destiny on the road of human evolution.

Acceptance

Being still
and receptive
to the choices
life is offering
in the midst of chaos.

Beauty

A reflection of
the beholder
in the still pool
of Being.

Being

That which
simply Is.

Constancy

The mountain
that weathers
the storms, and
in essence remains
the same.

Individuality

The unique pattern
of snowflake
that forms in the
cloud of the soul.

Intention

The nature of the root
to anchor
and the leaf
to find the sun.

Laughter

As the morning sun melts
frost from a blade of grass,
so laughter that is genuine
warms the frozen heart.

Serenity

The wisdom of
the seasons,
and the peace
of knowing
that all cycles
are complete.

Spontaneity

Freedom
to ride
the wave
of the
present moment.

Stillness

The pause
between two notes
in the music
of the spheres.
